Change in COVID-19 Isolation Guidelines

On January 9, 2024, the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) updated the COVID-19 Isolation Guidance. The new guidance moves away from the mandatory five days of isolation and instead focuses on clinical symptoms to determine when to end isolation. The Moreland School District is in alignment with CDPH's newest guidelines. Please note the following:

  1. Your child should stay home if they have symptoms of COVID-19. They may return to school when they have been without a fever for 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medication AND other COVID-19 symptoms are mild and improving.

  1. If your child tests positive for COVID-19 but does not have symptoms, your child may continue to attend school. However, they should isolate at home immediately if they develop symptoms and follow the masking guidance below.

  1. Masking: In either case, your child should wear a mask when around other people indoors for 10 days after they become sick or test positive (if no symptoms). Your child may remove their mask sooner than 10 days if they have two sequential negative tests at least one day apart. Day 0 is the symptom onset date or positive test date.

Please communicate to the front office staff regarding your child’s symptoms and when they will return to school. A note from your child’s doctor is not necessary unless they have been absent from school for 5 or more days. Thank you for your attention to this matter and we appreciate your efforts to keep all students healthy.
