During the window of February 1 - May 3, physical education teachers will conduct California’s Physical Fitness Test (PFT) for students in grades 5 and 7. The assessment includes a variety of health related physical fitness tests designed to assess cardiovascular endurance, muscle strength, muscular endurance, flexibility. It assesses five areas of fitness:
- Aerobic Capacity
- Abdominal Strength and Endurance
- Trunk Extensor Strength and Flexibility
- Upper Body Strength and Endurance
California has removed the Body Composition fitness component, which measures a student’s height and weight. Individual student scores will not be sent to families. Teachers will share scores with students as they complete the assessment tasks. You can find out more information about the PFT on the CDE website. If you have any specific questions about the assessment, you can contact your child's PE teacher.
