Erin’s Law’s law requires schools to implement an age-appropriate sexual assault and abuse awareness and prevention curriculum for grades TK-8. Victor Pacini, a survivor of sexual abuse, author and motivational speaker, will be assisting our schools in implementing this mandate. Mr. Pacini’s assembly program, Be Seen and Heard, is developmentally appropriate, interactive, and aligned with learning standards. The assemblies are presented in specific grade level groups to ensure that the message is age appropriate for all students. The focus of the presentation is to teach children basic skills to keep them safe from dangerous or abusive situations. The concepts that will be discussed are:

Distinguishing safe from unsafe touches
Saying “NO”
It’s not the child’s fault if someone touches him or her
Telling a trusted adult
Safety rules at home and school
Safe/unsafe secrets

Students will attend the Zoom assembly in late March. The exact time of the assembly will be shared with you as we get closer to the assembly date. If you choose for your child to not participate in the assembly, there will be an opt out form for you to complete.

The Moreland District English Language Advisory Committee’s next meeting is scheduled for Thursday, Feb, 25, 2021. Parents of our English Learners as well as all Moreland community members are welcome to attend. Topics to be discussed include the upcoming Summative English Learning Assessment for California (ELPAC) test beginning this week as well as information detailing our district LCAP.

Because of the uncertainty of our schools’ opening in the fall of 2021, we are waiting until later in the spring to open enrollment in the Moreland Extended Day program for the 2021-22 school year. We will continue to communicate with our families to inform them of program updates and enrollment information. Thank you for your ongoing support and patience. The English Language Proficiency Assessment of California (ELPAC) Summative testing window is February 1 - May 31, 2021. The ELPAC is administered to Moreland students who are identified as English Learners. Testing will be done remotely at this time and our ELPAC staff will notify parents/guardians of their students’ upcoming testing sessions. Have you donated to support Moreland schools through MEF? During the love-filled month of February, MEF is asking you to donate to help pay for music classes and instruments, murals, mental health programs, STEAM events and other activities at our school. These items aren't included in the state budget, and Moreland is depending on financial support from MEF to maintain the high standards of these programs next year.
